"These are for you," the young man had said, a shy smile gracing his face. He’d barely made eye contact, handing her the lilies and then hurrying away. Sarah stood rooted to the spot, the floral arrangement heavy in her arms. The air felt suddenly thick, the floral aroma cloying. Her jaw worked, silently mouthing "Me?". Then, a slow heat bloomed in her cheeks. Did *he* know? Had he found out? She clutched the vase, her knuckles white. She looked around the bustling office, searching for knowing glances, whispered conversations. None. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence.
