Gemotions

The aroma hit her first. Sweet, heavy, intoxicating. Then, she saw them: a magnificent arrangement of mixed blooms on the kitchen table. She’d been so sure she was alone. The flowers were gorgeous, but the lack of a card was making her feel completely off balance. She scanned the room, the silent apartment suddenly seeming vast and full of shadows. She walked to the window, peering out into the twilight, as if the answer might somehow be written on the houses across the street. A sudden chill ran through her, raising goosebumps on her arms.
