The jingle of the bell above the door barely registered. Emily’s gaze was fixed on the object inside the glass case. It was as if her entire life had led to this moment. Her grandmother's ring. The intricate carvings, the way the light danced across the emerald… She remembered the stories, the fairy tales spun by her grandmother.

She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. Her palms started to sweat. She leaned closer, pressing her face against the cool glass. The shop seemed to fade away, the noise and the smells disappearing.

She knew she had to have it back, even if it meant she had to sell her car.
