The hum of the server room always made Mark feel grounded, but today it was different. He swallowed, attempting a casual demeanor. He was supposed to guide the new systems administrator, David, through the network infrastructure.

He ran a hand through his hair, suddenly aware of the sweat beading on his forehead. David, with his expensive watch and confident air, seemed to take in everything with ease. Mark, who'd built most of the systems himself, found his voice caught in his throat.

He pointed, he explained, he watched. Every passing moment felt unreal. He was the guide. He was the one with the information. He felt something rising in him, a sort of… lightness.
