Liam felt his pulse hammer against his ribs. He had known, logically, that seeing Sarah again was a possibility at Mark and Emily's wedding. He just hadn't prepared for the impact. It was the way the sunlight caught the copper highlights in her hair as she spoke, the easy way she moved, the way she was effortlessly beautiful.

He fumbled with his napkin, wiping nonexistent crumbs from his already spotless tuxedo. His palms were clammy, a stark contrast to the crisp linen. He wished, with a sudden, desperate longing, that he had chosen a different tie, a bolder one.

He found himself staring, completely captivated. Her eyes met his across the room. She offered a small, polite smile, and for a fleeting moment, he felt like he had been transported back in time, to a time when his world had revolved around her. He quickly averted his gaze. It was almost too much.
