"I'm a freelance writer," Ben would say, shrugging, as he typed away at his laptop in coffee shops. The most exciting thing in his life was probably the lack of good coffee. Suddenly, I saw him walking towards me, his face alight. He was waving at me.

He stepped out of a spaceship. A real, actual spaceship! My mind short-circuited. He looked over at me with a sheepish grin. "Fancy seeing you here."

"I... I don't..." I stammered, my mouth dry. The sleek, silver vessel gleamed under the alien sun. He was a space pirate? A galactic explorer? The implications spun through my head like a rogue planet.
