Gemotions

The scene was surreal. John stared at the empty space, feeling his knees grow weak. He had just finished making breakfast and was stepping outside to get in his pickup truck when he was stopped dead in his tracks.

He was suddenly conscious of the rustling leaves of the maple tree overhead, the chirping of unseen birds. He felt a strange detachment, as if watching this unfold from a distance, like a silent observer.

He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous gesture. The sun seemed brighter, the air crisper, the world somehow... more present. It was an alien, unsettling experience.
