Liam stared at the overflowing file cabinet in his mother's study. The labels, meticulously typed, listed every year of his schooling. He'd come looking for a tax document, but found this instead. A feeling of profound wonder settled upon him as he opened the first file, labeled "Grade One."

He carefully pulled out a dog-eared worksheet from the top. He remembered the teacher’s name. Mrs. Davison. He remembered the smell of the room. It was like he was there again, sitting at his tiny desk, learning to write his name for the very first time.

Each page, each meticulously corrected spelling test, each report card brimming with teacher's comments, was a glimpse into his past. A feeling of deep admiration welled up inside him.
