Gemotions

The newspaper lay open on the kitchen table, the headline screaming, "Local Hero Saves the Day!" Below it, the photograph of her, but the byline said "Detective Miller." She’d written the entire report, every single detail, for her boss, the Detective. She'd known it would be.

Her breath hitched in her throat. She closed her eyes, trying to process the information. It was as though the world around her had tilted. This was the pinnacle of what she'd always wanted, recognition for a job well done. But it wasn't for her.

She felt a rush, a tingling sensation from her toes to the top of her head. She had to sit down, her legs felt like jelly. Her fingers ran over the image of Detective Miller, standing tall, the hero. A dizzying wave of feeling washed over her.
