A wave of dizziness washed over Daniel as he read the email. His stomach dropped, leaving a hollow ache. He had spent weeks planning this, pouring over every detail. The venue, the caterer, the guest list – all meticulously arranged. Now, it was all erased, a phantom limb that throbbed with the ghost of anticipation. He sat heavily in his chair, the office around him a blur of muted activity.

He could practically taste the disappointment that would soon fill him. He felt strangely calm, though, and began to laugh, softly at first. The sound built in his chest, a strange, bubbling current that felt like it would soon burst. He leaned his head back, staring at the ceiling and whispered, "I just... I don't believe it."
