The wallpaper peeled back with a disconcerting ease, revealing a dark, yawning emptiness behind the master bedroom's built-in closet. Amelia’s breath hitched. She’d always found the closet a little… off. Now, she understood why. A narrow, stone staircase spiralled downwards into the gloom. Her fingers brushed the cool, damp stone. They felt strangely alive.

She took a hesitant step, then another. Each footfall echoed in the sudden silence. The air grew heavy, thick with the scent of earth and something else, something metallic and old. As she descended, a faint light flickered from below. She felt a lightness, a disconnect from the everyday world she knew.
