He stood frozen in the bustling food market, the scent of sizzling onions and roasting peppers filling the air. Thomas clutched the faded recipe card in his pocket, the one his grandmother had painstakingly written. "Grandma Rosie's Spicy Chili." He'd tinkered with it for years, perfecting the balance of heat and flavor. Then, a new vendor had arrived, a young woman with a booming laugh and a strikingly familiar chili bubbling in her large pot.

His jaw dropped a little when he saw the line of eager customers. Every single person was grabbing multiple servings, complimenting the delicious chili, and the vendor was making jokes.

He felt his hands start to sweat. He had tried to sell the recipe to the woman, but she declined, saying her own was better. He'd thought she was just being polite, but now, he understood. She had somehow acquired his grandmother's recipe.
