The lawyer’s office was oppressively formal, all polished wood and hushed tones. David sat rigid in his chair, his gaze fixed on the mahogany desk. Before him lay the document, the legal paperwork for the sale of his grandfather's vintage car. A machine he was told was worth more than his house. The gleaming chrome, the leather interior, the low rumble of the engine – all the memories of joyous Sundays were fading away. He ran his hand over his jaw, wondering how he would ever be able to face the world again.
