He felt a pull in his stomach, a strange, dizzying sensation. The room, decorated with banners proclaiming “Congratulations, Mr. Henderson!” seemed to spin. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he still possessed. His father, seated at the center table, raised a glass in his direction.

He felt suddenly small, a boy again. He remembered scraped knees and bedtime stories, the unwavering support that had always been there. He felt humbled. He thought about the countless hours his father had dedicated to his job, the dedication that had built a legacy. The thought caused a catch in his throat.
