The attic air hung thick with dust motes dancing in the lone sunbeam. Sarah’s fingers, trembling despite her efforts to steady them, brushed against the yellowed envelope. Her own handwriting, a script she barely recognized now, sprawled across the front: *To Mom, Before It's Too Late*. She could barely breathe. The paper, fragile with age, seemed to hum with a forgotten energy.

She sank onto a moth-eaten trunk, the letter clutched tight. Her pulse hammered. It had been twenty years. Twenty years since she'd been brave enough to feel this. She carefully slit the seal.

The words inside were a younger self's desperate plea for understanding, for forgiveness. Tears blurred the ink. She read of unspoken resentments, a daughter's yearning. She felt small again, overwhelmed by the candidness of her past self.
