The tiny, perfectly formed replica of the *Serenity* hung in the dim light of Leo’s room, its tiny nacelles gleaming. His daughter, Maya, age seven, ran a finger along the finely detailed hull. She’d spent weeks, practically living in his workshop, observing his meticulous work on the model. Now, she was building her own, a miniature *Millennium Falcon*.

Her brow was furrowed in concentration, tongue peeking out from between her teeth as she painted the cockpit. Leo, watching from the doorway, felt a swell of something inside him. He remembered his own childhood, the hours spent lost in the worlds of science fiction, the dreams of interstellar travel.

He approached, careful not to disturb her focus. “Need any help, Captain?”

Maya looked up, her eyes wide, the brush hovering mid-air. “Dad… how did you… make this?” Her voice was hushed, filled with wonder. He pointed at the *Serenity*. He couldn't quite believe his own eyes, it almost looked like she had built a replica of his replica.
