The car stopped. The tires crunched on the gravel path. Michael got out, expecting to see the familiar silhouette, a beacon of childhood memories. Instead, there was nothing. An emptiness yawned before him.

He stood perfectly still, his body rigid, his gaze locked on the empty space. It looked so…wrong. The world tilted slightly, as if the earth itself had been rearranged.

His hands clenched into fists, the nails digging into his palms. He felt a sudden, inexplicable tightness in his throat, making it difficult to breathe. The world was now somehow altered.

"Well I'll be…" he said, the words barely a rasp.
