The pounding stopped. Mrs. Gable from next door was at the door, her face a thundercloud. Inside, Leo’s band had been rehearsing, a cacophony of adolescent ambition. He watched her approach, a tremble beginning in his stomach. He opened the door slowly, the scent of her lavender perfume filling the air.

Her lips were pursed, but her eyes… they were different. "That… that drumming," she began, voice softer than Leo had ever heard. "It's… something." She pointed a shaky finger towards the garage.

Leo swallowed, unable to meet her gaze. He simply nodded, the music still ringing in his ears. He realized she wasn't angry at all; she was… affected.
