Eliza pressed her forehead against her window. She could barely take it in. She'd known her neighbor, Mrs. Harrison, had a penchant for designer clothes, but she hadn't realized the extent of it. The walk-in closet in the new extension on her house was being professionally organized. Rows and rows of garments, all seemingly pristine, meticulously arranged. Boxes with luxury brands were stacked on the floor.

Her own closet, a crammed space of discounted items, felt like a mockery. Her pulse quickened. The movers were carting in even more, with the sound of the clanging making her ears ring.

She had always viewed Mrs. Harrison as a friendly, but somewhat… frivolous, lady. Now, she felt a strange mix of emotions, a feeling of inadequacy blended with a burning curiosity. What was it like? What was it like to live like that?
