"Just a little trim," the man said, gesturing towards the towering silver birch. I felt faint. It was the only sound for a moment.

The sheer audacity of the suggestion – to diminish this majestic creature, to alter its shape – stunned me. The birch’s white bark shimmered in the sunlight, and I remembered all the little things that defined the tree.

My hands fidgeted, picking at an invisible thread. The silence stretched, and his words echoed in my mind. The air felt charged, and I knew I couldn't bear to see the trunk fall or the branches disappear. I found myself speechless, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the proposal.
