Liam found the laptop nestled amongst scattered art supplies in the spare bedroom. The screen glowed, displaying the title page of his girlfriend, Chloe’s, new manuscript. He recognized the setting, the beach where they'd spent their last summer vacation. A strange heat bloomed in his chest. His hands, usually steady, felt clumsy as he clicked through the first few chapters.

She'd captured his essence, the way he tilted his head when he was listening intently, the nervous habit of biting his lip. He was a character in her story, a hero in her own intricate world. He was speechless.

He felt something akin to elevation, as though he was now standing in an invisible cathedral, built upon her words. The air felt charged with something he couldn't quite name. He closed the laptop, a hesitant smile playing on his lips, and made a mental note to buy her favorite flowers.
