"You won’t believe this," his roommate said, waving his phone. "They used your essay in the admissions brochure." He felt the blood drain from his face. It was the moment he had imagined and dreaded.

He took the phone, his hands shaking slightly. He stared at the image, at the familiar words. A strange sense of unreality washed over him. He felt a tightness in his chest, as if someone had physically constricted his breath.

He found himself struggling to find words. He was speechless. He leaned against the wall. He couldn't comprehend how this had happened.
