The predictable phrase hung in the air, a cruel reminder of her predicament. Anna, a photographer, was due to cover a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife migration. Now, the flight was delayed indefinitely.

Her hands shook as she scrolled through her emails, re-reading the confirmation, the itinerary, the carefully laid plans now crumbling around her. She felt a growing sense of detachment, like she was floating above the scene, watching it all unfold with a strange sense of unreality.
