The music seemed to pound in Clara’s ears. She had imagined this day, thought about it countless times, but never like *this*. Seeing Leo, so casually, so easily integrated into the wedding party, was… well, it was something else.

Her limbs felt heavy. She found herself clutching her handbag, the leather digging into her palm. She shifted from foot to foot, unsure where to look, what to do. The vibrant colors of the floral arrangements seemed to blur.

"Clara! Wonderful to see you!" The bride, beaming, swept over. Clara stammered a greeting, the words catching in her throat, a complete tangle of what she was thinking and what she was supposed to say.
