Gemotions

The familiar scent of lavender and old books hung in the air of the library. They were reminiscing about the time they snuck in here as kids. Leo was animated, recalling a daring escapade, climbing the bookshelves, and giggling with the thrill of mischief. For Daniel, it was a silent, somber affair. He remembered the musty smell and the feeling of being completely alone, hiding, and fearing being caught.

"You don't remember any of that?" Leo was asking, puzzled. Daniel’s breath hitched. He felt as if someone had just pulled the rug from under him. He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous gesture. "No," he said, the word catching in his throat. It was as if they were speaking two different languages about the same event.
