Gemotions

She found the letter tucked inside a slim volume of poetry by Sylvia Plath. The irony was not lost on her. It was a letter of farewell, filled with a sense of impending doom. She felt a jolt of alarm, a strange and unwelcome surge of adrenaline.

She reread the final paragraph several times, each time feeling more detached from herself and the world around her. She closed the book, her hands shaking.

The familiar objects in her apartment seemed alien, their purpose now obscured. The walls of her apartment seemed to grow smaller and closer. She suddenly felt claustrophobic.
