Gemotions

The world tilted. He'd approached her, breathless, ready to tell her all the things he'd kept locked inside him for years. He'd even bought her favourite flowers. Her eyes flickered over his face, a polite, almost dismissive assessment.

"I'm sorry," she said, her voice smooth and devoid of any warmth. "I don't believe we've met."

His breath hitched in his throat. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him cold and light-headed. His hand, still clutching the bouquet, felt heavy, leaden. He could only stare at her, the woman who was supposed to be his everything, a stranger.

He took an involuntary step back, as if the ground had suddenly shifted beneath him.
