"That can't be… that can't be him," said Maya, staring at the photo. Her grandfather, a stern man, a pillar of the community, was smiling, arms around two young women. It was the complete opposite of the stories she had always heard. The stories spoke of a devoted husband, a faithful father.

She felt a wave of nausea. The air in the room seemed to thicken, making it hard to breathe. The photograph didn't match the image she had held in her mind. It was a jarring contradiction.

She rose from the chair, the room spinning slightly. She felt adrift, lost in a sea of unknown truths. She needed to sit down, to make sense of what she had seen.
