The letter was a surprise. Margaret found it tucked between the pages of her grandfather's worn copy of *Moby Dick*. It was addressed to a bank, requesting a loan to start a business. It was written in her grandfather's elegant cursive, but the tone was filled with a palpable desperation.

Her grandfather, a successful businessman in her memory, had always seemed financially secure. This letter suggested a struggle, a risk that he’d shielded from the family. Margaret felt a slow burn in her chest.
