The printout was on the printer, still warm from the machine. “The Architect’s Muse,” it stated in bold letters. It was her husband, John, and him. She recognized all the places, all the people, all the conversations. The details were spot-on, and yet the essence… something was wrong. She felt a disconnect, a feeling of being an imposter in her own life.

She moved to the window, trying to focus on something concrete, something real. The busy street below seemed miles away, a world she no longer belonged to. She gripped the edge of the window frame, her knuckles white.

John came in, holding a coffee. "Finished the first draft, babe!" he announced, a wide smile on his face. She couldn't look at him. She just said, "Oh."
