The familiar scent of her perfume, a fragrance he had once found intoxicating, now turned her stomach. He’d been coming home from the office early lately, a flimsy excuse to see if he could catch her. He'd find her locked in the bedroom, talking, her voice a hushed whisper, a clandestine symphony he couldn't decipher.

He spent the next few days in a daze, the world appearing blurred and muted. The vibrant colors of their life together seemed to have faded to grey. He'd find himself staring blankly at the wall, a hollow echo in his chest.

One afternoon, he found a lipstick-stained tissue in the bin. He crumpled the tissue, his knuckles white, a silent scream of accusation lodged in his throat.
