He hadn't thought about that diary in years. Now, it was online. He was now reliving all the pain and angst. He read through the comments. The laughter, the mockery, the easy dismissal of his youthful dreams, now a public spectacle. He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, a physical manifestation of the emotional assault.

He pushed his chair back from the desk, his legs tangling in the cords. He stood and walked to the window. The world outside, a vibrant tapestry of life and activity, seemed distant, alien. He felt the sting of tears prick his eyes.

He went to the fridge. He took out a beer, slammed the door shut, and popped the top off. He walked to the couch and sat down, staring at the screen, as the sun began to set.
