He’d been the boy who taught her how to ride a bike. She'd found him online, sent a simple message. He'd responded. A coffee date, she thought. A chance to reminisce. Then came the meeting, the handshake, the pleasantries. And the complete, utter lack of recognition. He smiled, apologized, claimed a terrible memory. She felt the blood drain from her face. Everything inside of her seemed to shrink. He offered to buy her a coffee. She declined, making an excuse. The walk home felt endless, the world suddenly gray and devoid of color.
