The old photographs, unearthed from a forgotten box, were like shards of glass in his hands. His uncle, the family black sheep, the one his mother had warned him about, had been a dashing figure. He had been a handsome devil, smiling with a playful glint in his eye.

The stories always painted him as a disgrace, a burden to the family. Now, seeing these images, he understood that there was more to his uncle's story than the family had let on. He felt a deep ache in his chest, a feeling he couldn’t place.

He closed the album, a sense of disquiet settling over him. He felt like he had been cheated of a different narrative, a different connection.
