The news hit Sarah like a physical blow. The CEO's saccharine email, full of empty platitudes, felt like a deliberate insult. She'd invested years here, sacrificed so much. Now, some faceless corporation would waltz in and probably gut the entire department.

She sat at her desk, unable to focus. Her fingers danced nervously on the keyboard, but no words came. The air in the office suddenly felt thick, heavy with unspoken anxieties. She tried to take a deep breath, but it got caught in her chest, leaving her feeling winded and uneasy.
