The weight of it, the simple, devastating words, pressed down on him, a physical burden. He sat there, unable to move, the screen of his phone reflecting the emptiness in his eyes. The message: "Finally free from that burden. Could never stand to look at her face." Meant for a work colleague. Received by his wife. He stared at the message, each letter a knife twist. He let out a long, shuddering sigh, the sound swallowed by the stillness of the room. The world felt hollow, devoid of meaning.
