The will. His name. Her name. The lawyer read them aloud, the words echoing in the vast, impersonal office. Daniel, feeling his hands clench. His father's assets, divided. A stranger. A percentage to a woman he didn't know, a woman who had no right to his father’s legacy.

He left the office, the crisp autumn air did little to soothe the tightness in his chest. He stopped at a bar and ordered a scotch. He drank it quickly. He had never felt this. He could feel the hate boiling. He didn't want to meet her. He didn't want to share his memories of his father with someone he didn't know. He was angry. He was furious. He knew that the only thing that would save him was to ignore her.
