"F." The single letter practically screamed from the page. Aaron tossed the assignment onto the desk, where it joined a growing pile of neglected papers. He felt a cold rage bubbling inside, directed at the world in general. How could Ms. Chen possibly have failed him?

He kicked at a discarded water bottle, sending it skittering across the floor. He hadn't slept well since the test; now, all of a sudden, he wasn't hungry. He'd put in the time. He'd even helped other students. The injustice of it felt like a physical blow. He wanted to scream.
