Gemotions

The anthology, "The Art of the College Essay," sat on her desk. His essay, "The Language of Silence," was highlighted with a yellow marker. She flipped through the pages, the text mocking her with its eloquence. He'd been rejected by every writing program he applied to. She felt an insistent pressure in her temples. She got up and walked around the room, picking up and dropping objects at random, never settling on a single task. The silence of the apartment felt heavy, oppressive, as if the walls were closing in.
