Gemotions

The morning had a special glow about it. Thomas whistled while he prepared breakfast, the bacon sizzling in the pan creating a fragrance he savored. He was going to get the scholarship, he knew it. He just felt it in his bones.

He checked his email, his heart rate accelerating. The words seemed to leap off the screen at first, each syllable full of promise. He felt so happy, so powerful.

The promise vanished. He slumped back in his chair, the bacon now burnt to a crisp. The glow disappeared, and everything seemed muted and drab.
