He floated into the university building, his feet barely registering on the worn linoleum. The air smelled sweeter than usual, a mix of old books and something akin to fresh-baked bread. He smiled widely at the security guard, a gesture that was immediately returned. He felt like he could take on the world, or at least his demanding history assignment.

A summons arrived for him: Professor Albright wanted to see him. “About the research paper,” the email said.

The blood drained from his face as he walked to the office. The professor's stern gaze landed on him, holding up his paper with a marked passage. The comparison to another student’s work was damning. The room tilted. He barely heard the accusations. He focused instead on remembering the walk to university, the gentle breeze, the feeling of utter contentment.
