He whistled a jaunty tune as he folded laundry, sunshine pouring through the window of his apartment. David had just landed a major client, and things were finally going his way. The world was practically sparkling. He felt like he could do anything.

While he was going through some old boxes, he found a container labelled "My Boy's Academic Exploits" in his mother's handwriting. He hesitated, then opened the lid.

Inside were all the projects he had ever worked on. He found a particularly dreadful attempt at a historical diorama, a science project where the volcano failed to erupt, and a story he wrote about a robot. He laughed out loud. He picked up his phone to call his mom.
