Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed a jaunty tune as she unpacked the last box of dishes. Everything felt…right. Settled. A gentle warmth blossomed in her chest. She loved this house. The creak of the floorboards, the way the light shifted throughout the day – it was all perfect.

She’d always been a creature of habit, and this new place felt destined for her. While arranging the glassware, her hand brushed against something odd. A slight indentation in the wall, behind the pantry. Curiosity piqued, she pressed.

The wall yielded with a soft click, revealing a narrow doorway. Inside, a spiral staircase descended into shadow. A giggle bubbled up from her throat. This was going to be fun.
