Gemotions

The antique key felt warm in Leo’s palm. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass window of the front door, painting the dust motes dancing in the air with rainbows. He inhaled deeply, the scent of lavender and old wood filling his lungs. A soft laugh escaped him as he pushed the door open, the hinges groaning in protest. He stepped inside, a wide, unwavering smile stretching across his face.

He spent the morning wandering the rooms, tracing the intricate carvings on the furniture and running his hand along the smooth, cool surfaces of the marble tabletops. Every drawer he opened revealed another treasure: faded photographs, handwritten letters, and trinkets that whispered of a life well-lived. He felt a light, airy sensation in his chest, a feeling of effortless contentment.

Later, he found himself humming as he started clearing the overgrown garden. The sun was warm on his skin as he dug in the earth, the scent of soil rising to meet him. He paused to watch a butterfly flit amongst the roses, a smile spreading across his face. He decided to stay, to really live here.
