"Well, now," she murmured to herself, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. The wallet felt solid and promising in her hand. She had never found so much money before, and her pulse was quick.

The sudden influx of wealth promised freedom. It promised an end to the anxiety that had shadowed her for so long. She could pay off her debts. She could start saving. The thought made her feel lighter than air.

The simple act of walking down the street was a joy. She noticed details she'd never seen before: the intricate carvings on a building, the bright plumage of a bird. She felt… well. Astonishingly well.
