The world felt hushed, like waking up to the first snowfall of winter. Everything was coated in a pristine stillness. She had just found out she had received an A on her history paper. She was walking to the dining hall, barely touching the ground. As she approached the dorm, she saw her roommate, Jessica, sitting on the bed with a peculiar expression.

She found her journal on the floor next to her bed, pages out of order. A sick feeling churned in her stomach. Jessica stared at the wall, her face pale. She was quiet. An unbearable, crushing silence settled between them.
