A gentle warmth filled her as she walked down the street. The cafe’s aroma, the friendly chatter of the barista, a good text from her mom, it all added up to a perfect morning. She had spent the morning working on her novel, and was eager to write more. The world was unfolding like a beautiful dream.

She noticed a small, telltale crease on the cover of her journal. It was usually pristine. Her roommate, Anna, was unusually subdued. The colour had drained from her face. A sense of wrongness, of profound betrayal, settled over her.
