My fingers tapped against the counter, a rhythmic beat mirroring the quick pulse of happiness coursing through me. I envisioned the happy, excited dog's reaction when I arrived home. The apartment, that quiet, empty space, was about to be filled with life. My roommate, Maya, stood in the doorway. She seemed troubled.

"A puppy, Liam? We talked about this. You barely have time for yourself. Who's going to walk it?" Her voice held a note of genuine concern.

I waved my hand dismissively, the feeling bubbling in my chest. "Don't worry, I've got it all planned. I’ll make time. It'll be the best thing. Think of the fun." I began to enumerate the future dog park visits. This was going to be great.
