"The Serpent's Kiss" wasn't going to be published. The email from "Silver Stream Publishing" confirmed it. He reread the rejection, but didn't feel the sting he expected. Instead, he felt a strange sense of… buoyancy.

He walked over to the piano, and sat. He lifted his hands, and began playing. The notes flowed from him, a melody he hadn't known he possessed. He played for hours, until the sun began to set, filling the room with a warm, golden glow. He felt energized, lighter than air.
