Gemotions

The world shimmered. Every color seemed a bit brighter, every sound more vibrant. Laura was spending the afternoon organizing her attic, a task that, usually, she would dread. Today, she found herself filled with glee.

In a forgotten trunk, she found a series of photographs from her mother’s childhood. Her mother had always described a bleak upbringing, marked by privation and hardship.

One image showed her mother riding a horse, smiling broadly. This was the antithesis of the stories of a sheltered and difficult childhood.

A picture of her grandfather playing in a band, a guitar slung over his shoulder, surrounded by friends. He was always described as a stern and silent man.

Laura laughed, a genuine, joyful sound. It was as if a weight she hadn't known she was carrying had been lifted.
